Your journal belongs to you. Here's exactly how we handle it.
The Way Within is a personal journal. Your words, reflections, and photos are yours — we don't sell them, share them, or use them to train AI models.
When you create an account we collect your email address. That's it. We don't ask for your name, phone number, or payment details (the app is free to use).
Everything you write in The Way Within — your intentions, daily entries, photos, reflections, and Way Home responses — is stored securely in your personal account on Supabase, our database provider. This content is private to you by default.
The Profile screen lets you optionally enter your name, hometown, age, and a short bio. This information is only used to personalise your exported book. It is never shared.
We do not currently use analytics tracking, advertising pixels, or third-party tracking scripts. We may collect basic technical logs (error reports, authentication events) to keep the app running correctly.
We do not use your data for advertising, selling to third parties, profiling, or training machine learning models.
Photos you attach to journal entries are stored in your private Supabase storage bucket. They are not publicly accessible. Photos you choose to include in your exported book are embedded in the PDF on your device — they are not sent to any server during export.
The journey map uses Mapbox to render your route. When you view your map, your device connects to Mapbox servers to load map tiles. Town search uses the Nominatim/OpenStreetMap API to look up place names. Neither service receives your journal content — only the location coordinates you select.
Your PDF is generated entirely in your browser — your journal content never leaves your device during export. If you choose to upload the PDF to Blurb for printing, that relationship is directly between you and Blurb, governed by their own privacy policy.
Your data is stored on Supabase, which uses industry-standard encryption at rest and in transit (TLS). Authentication is handled via Supabase Auth. We recommend using a strong, unique password for your account.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
To exercise any of these rights, email us at the address below. We will respond within 30 days.
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your journal entries, photos, and profile information are permanently deleted within 30 days.
The Way Within is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll note the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
We're a small team and happy to help with any privacy questions or data requests.

The Way Within ("the app", "the service") is a personal journalling app designed for pilgrims walking the Camino de Santiago. It is provided by the creator of The Way Within ("we", "us").
The app is currently free to use. We reserve the right to introduce paid features in future, but any existing free functionality will remain accessible.
You must provide a valid email address to create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your password and for all activity that occurs under your account.
You must be at least 13 years old to use this service. By creating an account you confirm you meet this requirement.
Everything you write, photograph, and save in The Way Within belongs to you. We claim no ownership over your journal entries, photos, reflections, or any other content you create.
By storing content in the app, you grant us a limited licence to store and process that content solely for the purpose of providing the service to you. This licence ends when you delete your account.
You agree not to use the service to store or share content that:
The Way Within is a private personal journal — your content is not shared publicly within the app.
The PDF export feature generates a file on your device for personal use. If you choose to print your book through Blurb, you are entering into a separate contract with Blurb Inc. and their terms of service apply. We are not affiliated with Blurb and do not receive any commission.
You are responsible for ensuring the content you include in your exported book does not infringe third-party rights (for example, reproducing large amounts of copyrighted text).
We aim to keep the app running reliably, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The service is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. We are not liable for any loss of data, although we take reasonable steps to back up your content.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service — including loss of data, loss of profits, or any other intangible losses.
Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these terms or your use of the service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim (which, given the app is currently free, would be zero).
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the creator is based. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction.
We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. We'll note the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, notify you by email. Continued use of the app after changes takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
